The Royal Botanical Gardens unveiled its newest garden.

The new garden is a half-acre plot tucked beside the recently added atrium. It celebrates the scores of escarpment waterfalls found throughout the region and, according to committee chair Bill DeLuca, it is also a tribute to the importance of family and community. DeLuca envisioned the garden as a memorial to his father.

“Growing up, RBG was the place my dad took us for family outings. So it made sense to honour my dad with a space at RBG. It’s meant to be a family place,” said DeLuca. “It will be relaxing and beautiful, but also fun and inspiring.”

The garden also features a glass and steel sculpture, which recognizes donors, and functions as an interpretive piece depicting the escarpment.

The family event was a fitting kick-off, according to the RBG, because DeLuca envisioned this garden as celebrating Aldershot’s rich family and business history, and he invited residents to contribute to the creation of the addition.

Aldershot Honor Roll-The Aldershot Community Honour Roll celebration and reception was held on Tuesday, June 1 at 7pm at Bay Gardens. Three new honorees were named to the Honour Roll that evening. They are: Dr. Ronald Dolan, our area’s first neurosurgeon (posthumously,) Mr. Frank Kretz for his years of devotion to the Aldershot Tennis Club and Mr. George Bolus for his leadership in the creation of Bolus Gardens Parkette. Congratulations to all!
